How to Write a Sealant TDS: What Buyers Actually Look For
A technical data sheet is the first document a buyer reads before ordering — and the fastest way to lose a distributor’s trust is a sloppy one. Whether you write your own TDS or evaluate a supplier’s, here is what a professional sealant TDS must contain, and what buyers actually verify line by line.
1. Product Identity and Description
A good TDS starts with the basics done right: exact product name, type (structural, weatherproof, MS polymer), cure chemistry (neutral or acid), color options and packaging. Buyers use this section to match the product to the right application — missing information means a lost quote.
2. The Numbers Buyers Actually Verify
Five figures are checked on every TDS: skin-over time (how fast the joint can be tooled), cure rate (mm per day), movement capability (Class 20-50), service temperature range, and tensile strength. If any of these are missing or rounded to vague ranges, the document loses credibility.
3. Standards and Compliance
State the standards your product meets — GB 16776-2005 for structural, GB/T 14683-2017 for building sealants, ISO 11600 for MS grades. Buyers in Europe and the Americas will also ask for the local equivalent. A TDS without standards is an invitation to question everything else.
4. Application and Storage Guidance
Surface preparation, application temperature range, tooling time and shelf life belong on every TDS. Storage conditions (below 27°C, dry) prevent premature cure — and complaints.
5. Batch Data: The TDS’s Honest Partner
A TDS describes the product; a batch certificate (COA) proves the specific batch. Serious buyers ask for both. Suppliers who provide batch test reports on request — tensile, elongation, Shore hardness, skin-over time — win the evaluation every time.
