How to Audit a Sealant Factory Before Your First Order: 7-Point Checklist
You are one order away from a long partnership — or a very expensive lesson. Before you sign, you need to know how to audit a sealant factory before your first order. A one-day visit, done right, answers more than a hundred emails ever will.
Paper First: Certifications and Traceability
Start with documents, not machines. Ask to see ISO 9001 and 14001 certificates, product test reports from a third-party lab, and the batch records for the last three shipments. Traceability matters: can the factory tell you which raw material batch went into which sealant batch? If the answer is vague, the quality system is vague.
On the Floor: Production and QC
Walk the line and watch how the factory actually works. Are raw materials labeled and segregated? Is the mixing area clean and dust-controlled? Do operators follow written procedures or work from memory? Check the QC lab — every good sealant factory has one, with viscosity, cure time and adhesion test equipment that is actually used, not displayed.
Capacity and Honesty
Ask for real capacity numbers and compare them with what they promised in the quote. A factory that overstates capacity will miss your delivery dates. Also watch how they answer questions they do not like — honest factories say “we can’t do that” clearly. That honesty is worth more than any discount.
Bring Home the Evidence
Take samples from the current production batch, not the showroom samples. Ask for a copy of the batch record and photos of the QC results. Keep the contact of the person who will actually manage your orders. The factory that passes this checklist is the one you can build a brand on.
