5 Signs You’re Buying Substandard Sealant From Unknown Factories

The cheapest quote is only cheap until the first failed batch. Distributors who source sealant from unverified factories risk returns, damaged reputations, and lost customers. Here are five signs that the factory you are considering may be cutting corners. Ask for batch certificates on every order, including the 8000 structural silicone sealant and 998 neutral silicone structural adhesive.

1. No Batch Test Reports

A legitimate manufacturer tests every production batch and can produce the report on demand. If the factory cannot provide batch test data for tensile strength, elongation, and adhesion — or avoids the question entirely — that is the first red flag. Insist on batch reports, not just a datasheet.

2. Vague or Missing Certification

Structural sealants for curtain walls must meet standards such as GB 16776-2005. Ask for the certificate and the test report behind it. Substandard factories often show a photo of a certificate they cannot substantiate. Verify the issuing body and the validity period.

3. Prices Far Below Market

If the quote is 20-30% below every other factory, the savings come from somewhere — cheaper raw materials, thinner filler ratios, or skipped testing. Inconsistent batches are the most common result: the first order is fine, the second fails. Price alone should never decide a sealant supplier.

4. No Lab or Quality Control Facility

Ask for a live video tour of the factory — especially the laboratory. A real manufacturer has curing rooms, tensile testers, and UV weathering chambers. Factories without in-house testing cannot guarantee consistency.

5. Refuses Samples or Changes the Story

Reputable manufacturers offer samples willingly — including for qualified distributors at little or no cost. If the factory hesitates on samples, avoids video verification, or gives inconsistent answers across contacts, walk away.

How to Protect Your Brand

Source from factories that publish their certifications, share batch reports, and welcome factory audits. Your brand name is on every cartridge — make sure the factory behind it deserves it.
